Ivan Sherburn started his working life in England as a secondary school mathematics teacher. A few years later he moved with his wife and young family to Kenya where he taught maths to African children on behalf of the British Ministry of Overseas Development. Nearly six years later he returned to England and took up a position at a residential school for boys with special needs. This was very satisfying but quite demanding as it involved working an additional 18 hours a week during evenings and weekends in a pastoral role as well as a normal teaching load. Five years later having had a taste of the “outdoor life” in Kenya Ivan and his family moved to New Zealand. A decision they have never regretted for a moment.
In 1989 Ivan decided on a career change and having moved to a lifestyle block a few years before opted to sell this type of property. These years of experience enable him to draw upon a wealth of knowledge when advising buyers and sellers and his success is illustrated by the fact that since joining Ray White in Hamilton Ivan has been the top Rural salesperson almost every year and in fact has been the top salesperson overall on many occasions. On a National level Ivan has been in the top three salespeople for Ray White during this period and in 2004 became the first rural salesperson to ever attain Ray White Elite level, which is only reached by the top 2% of Ray White New Zealand sales personnel.
Ivan’s commitment to service and professionalism is reflected not only by the amount of property he sells but also by the fact that he has put in the many hours of study required to qualify as an Associate of the Real Estate Institute, which enables him to have the initials AREINZ after his name. He has subdivided rural property himself and therefore is particularly well qualified to help in the process and marketing of subdivisions. Ivan and his wife Jill love the country life and own an 18 acre property in Rukuhia on which they run cattle and graze brood mares for a local stud. His other interests include growing all their own vegetables, fishing and playing bridge. He is also an active member of the South Hamilton Lions and he and Jill enjoy spending time with their grandchildren.
